Banjo stuff
People often ask about my favorite gauges for banjo strings.
I use GHS strings:
Ist - 9.5, 2nd - 11, 3rd - 13, 4th - 22, 5th - 9.5
I also like to keep one of my banjos tuned down to open "E" or "F"
If you haven't tried it before it's a great sound.
1st - 10, 2nd - 12, 3rd - 14, 4th - 24, 5th - 10
If you don't see the gauges you would like to try give them a call and they will
put a costom set together for you www.ghsstrings.com
People also ask what are the best banjos to start... For those of you starting to play banjo these are the models I recommend. It pays to spend a little more and avoid the cheap imports. Not saying this because I endorse Deeering Banjos... they just happen to be the best for what I'm discussing here.
Beginner banjo:
Deering Goodtime
Deering Goodtime 2 (with resonator)
Pro banjo best value for your money:
Deering Sierra

Be on the lookout for Andy Rau and Les Johnson doing workshops around the country on banjo and guitar. Deering Banjos, Andy and Les are in the planning stages of the these workshops. The first will be right at the Deering factory in Spring Valley, California and then they will continue at Dearing dealers around the country. So look or ask about them at your local music store. Tell then to give Deering Banjos a call if they don't know about it.

"Deering Banjos is happy to be able to bring the sound of the Andy Rau Band to its customers. Andy’s songs about our everyday lives performed with music in a contemporary vein will help everyone understand the versatility and beauty of the banjo."
